Fruita is mountain biking mecca — the kind of town where kids grow up riding before they can drive, and the trails outside town have names that riders know across the country. The Kids Adventure Race course here is built into that same landscape: red rock singletrack, open desert terrain, and a water section that requires a personal flotation device (provided for all racers).

What makes Fruita different from every other stop on the calendar: the race takes over Highline State Park, and families can camp onsite — right where the course runs. Wake up to red rock views, walk to the start line, cheer from your campsite. No hotel shuttles, no parking stress. Just your family, the desert, and race day.

September timing means cooler temps than the summer events and a course that’s at its most spectacular when the desert light goes golden.

What to Bring

REQUIRED GEAR

Every team must arrive at the start line with the full required kit. Being prepared is part of Adventure Racing. Each athlete is responsible for themselves and their teammates on the course, proper gear is required.
Gear checks happen before you race. Missing gear means you can’t start — no exceptions.

  • Backpack (to carry rest of gear)
  • Properly fitted bike helmet (CPSC or ASTM certified)
    (No face helmets!!)
  • Bike
  • Light snack for mid-race
  • Athletic shoes (trail shoes recommended)
  • Water bottle or hydration pack
  • Signed race day waiver
  • Trail gloves
  • Extra layer for mountain locations
  • Small first aid kit (small bag with bandaids, neosporin, wipes)

Recommended

  • Sunscreen and hat
  • Printed or laminated map holder
We will provide zipblock bags for maps on race day.

Harnesses and personal flotation devices (PFDs)are provided at the race venue. Racers are welcome and encouraged to bring their own if they have them.

Trained race staff and volunteers on-course at every obstacle and transition

Required safety gear verified at the start line — no gear, no race

Age-appropriate courses designed and tested by adventure racing professionals
